August 02, 2016Responding to the far-reaching equal pay law signed into law this week in Massachusetts, Sen. Brad Hoylman, D-Manhattan, is calling on the New York State Legislature to pass his bill that would prevent employers from asking about an applicant’s wage history as a condition of employment.
Bill S.6342/A.5982 — sponsored by Hoylman and Assembly Member Marcos Crespos — would help close New York’s gender gap by preventing employers from requiring a wage history as a requirement for an interview, application, or as a condition for accepting a job.

Dan had been an excellent student in high school — top of his class, star athlete and bound for the Ivy League.
Professionally, he had soared too, until recently. Dan was depressed, lost his job and facing eviction because he couldn’t make the rent. His life had spun out of control, but he couldn't figure out why.

Unfortunately, their bravery seemed unappreciated by some who unceremoniously turned them away.
It wasn’t the first time that these survivors were ignored by the powerful. Hopefully, it will be one of the last.

At the Horace Mann School in the Bronx, a recent report identified more than 60 former students abused by more than 22 employees since the 1960s. At Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, famed football coach Philip Foglietta was accused of abusing more than 10 students during his 40-year tenure.
